Rothwood Residence

A House
Designed
to Patina
Rooted in coastal tradition,
reimagined for Southern living,
and destined to deepen with time.
From the outset, the vision for Rothwood Residence was not simply to build a home, but to build one with memory already woven into its framework. Drawing inspiration from Nantucket’s cedar shake forms and translating them for the warmth of the South, Troha Interiors and Garrett P Nelson Studio shaped a residence that feels both storied and welcoming. Custom cabinetry crafted by local North Carolina artisans anchors the kitchen and butler’s pantry. Thoughtfully selected hardware in polished and unlacquered finishes brings texture and gravity to these spaces. Chautauqua pulls span generous drawers, while Hutter knobs punctuate doors with quiet confidence.
The ability to select unlacquered
finishes that would patina over time
was essential. For this new build,
we knew we needed to impart soul.
Classic Brass helped us do just that.
Intentional Restraint
Along the home’s rear corridor, a hidden hallway door leads quietly to the primary bath. The hardware was designed to remain unseen until needed. A brass bullnose edge pull disappears into the surface, emerging only when the door is drawn open. The gesture feels almost private, a subtle yet meaningful expression of the home’s thoughtful design. In a residence created to endure, such details ensure that tradition is not merely referenced, but fully lived.
